James A. Garfield Assassination Site Map
In 1881, President James A. Garfield was assassinated at the Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station in Washington, D.C., which no longer stands. The overlay below, created by Matthew B. Gilmore, combines a period map and a modern day map to indicate the location of Garfield's shooting. The red box shows the spot is in the middle of what is now Constitution Avenue NW, beside the National Gallery of Art.
